Meet San Miguel de Allende, the jewel box of a city located in Mexico’s state of Guanajuato. Praised for many things like its beauty and culture, it’s no wonder that World’s Best named it the best city in the world in 2021. While I had planned my first trip here over a year ago, I finally arrived and spent a week exploring the city.

What drew me in originally were the enchanting colored Colonial-style streets dripping in bougainvillea. If you’ve seen any postcards of the rosy-pink spires of the Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel, you’ll know what I mean. But what set fire to finally booking the tickets was something entirely different: the creative energy of San Miguel.

Days spent soaking in the sun, sore legs from ascending the cobblestone streets, hunting out incredible eats and shops, and moments of rest poolside or on a rooftop terrace. This was life in San Miguel de Allende for a week. Did it live up to my expectations? Yes, and more.
