El Palmar beach is a special place. Planning laws have stopped the typical sprawling Spanish beach resort development. Instead it has grown into a sort of hippy, ‘surfy’, shanti town. Colourful, funky, frontline, pop-up styled bars, hippy markets and surf schools make way for all kinds of makeshift dwellings – containers, caravans and campers and pre fab type houses. Have a word with one of the owners and you may well end up staying in one for the night.
